My name is Attila Horváth. Officially, I have been working as a journalist for more than twenty-five years, but unofficially, since my childhood. When I was eleven, during the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, I tore a few pages out of a checkered notebook, stapled them together, and created a “newspaper”: reports about the competitions, complete with hand-drawn illustrations. Back then, I was just playing—I didn’t know yet that this would later become my path.
My first “real” article was published at the age of 14 in *Kertészet és Szőlészet* (“Horticulture and Viticulture”). After that came *Magyar Gazda* (“Hungarian Farmer”), and at seventeen I joined the *Kanizsa Dél-Zalai Weekly*. During my college years, I wrote for *Metro News*, later as a freelancer for *Népszabadság* and *Magyar Hírlap*, followed by fourteen wonderful years at *Zalai Hírlap* as a public affairs journalist. I’ve experienced and tried many things, but I’ve always returned to what matters most: writing and storytelling. Today, I work again as a freelancer, mainly for *Agroinform*, but the time has come to fulfill an old dream of mine — to build my own news portal, based on my own vision.
The name I chose is no coincidence: WestLife. Western life. But what does that mean? A good salary? A high standard of living? Perhaps. But more than that, it means: live *from* your work, not *for* your work. Have time for your family, yourself, culture, gastronomy, and the joys of leisure. To truly live in the present — meaningfully and with value.
This portal was born for that reason. Without politics, focusing on what really matters: good examples, the strength of local communities, and the rich cultural, gastronomic, and touristic world of the Vas, Zala, Somogy, and Balaton regions. On what is often missing from today’s journalism: meaningful content that adds value — and that feels good to return to.
Let’s embark on this journey together. Because living well and meaningfully isn’t just good — it’s the only way worth living.
